Basketball Recap: Caleb Campbell's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Belton over Platte County

Belton suffered their closest loss since February 9th on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Platte County Pirates by a score of 58-55. Belton was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Platte County apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February.

Belton's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Caleb Campbell, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten boards. Those ten rebounds gave Campbell a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jw Johnson, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 16 points and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Belton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.

Belton's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Platte County, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 3-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Belton will head out to take on Lee's Summit at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Belton knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Lee's Summit likes a good challenge. As for Platte County, they will venture away from home to face off against Chrisman at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Platte County is facing Chrisman at the right time seeing as Chrisman is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
