Section 5 Finger Lakes - East recap October 1, 2013
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Waterloo, who took down 435th ranked Palmyra-Macedon, 25-20.
Geneva scaled the state rankings by moving to 60 from 95 this week, the biggest jump in Section 5 Finger Lakes - East. The Panthers climbed the ranks as a result of topping East Rochester-Gananda 25-20.
Stephen Morrell was a passing and rushing force as the Red Raiders lost to the Indians. He completed 7 passes for 72 yards and also ran for 165 yards. Morrell's key target this week was Max Lloyd, who caught 3 passes for 32 yards.
Nathan Currier threw for 151 yards and 3 touchdowns. He was 7-14 with 1 interception.
Mike Hollenbeck was the best wideout in the league this week as Wayne topped Penn Yan Academy. Hollenbeck racked up 3 receptions for 77 yards. Kyle Gallo helped Wayne's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 43 yards.
Wayne's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Eagles feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Currier has thrown for 428 yards and 8 touchdowns this season, while Hollenbeck has 5 catches for 155 yards.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Newark takes on the Bombers. The Reds are in first place, while East Rochester-Gananda is in fourth place.
Newark added to the longest winning streak in Section 5 Finger Lakes - East this week by beating Midlakes, 33-6. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.
