Basketball Recap: Indian Land Takes a Loss

Indian Land was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 45-40 heartbreaker at the hands of the Rock Hill Bearcats. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 140th, while the Bearcats are ranked 27th).

When it comes to explaining why Indian Land lost, don't look at Ava Pensule. Despite the final result, she went 6 for 9 on her way to 15 points and six rebounds. Those 15 points gave Pensule a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Emily Callahan, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten boards.

Even though they lost, Indian Land smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 23 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Rock Hill's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Aubrey Stevenson, who posted 18 points in addition to five assists and four steals. Stevenson is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed four or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Chloe Hudson, who had nine points in addition to six boards and four steals.

Indian Land's loss dropped their record down to 4-10. As for Rock Hill, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Indian Land will face off against Nation Ford at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Rock Hill, they will challenge Fort Mill at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Rock Hill is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.9 points per game this season.
