Indian Land hasn't had much luck against Catawba Ridge recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Indian Land Warriors will look to defend their home court against the Catawba Ridge Copperheads at 6:30 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Indian Land is headed into Friday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their seventh straight game on Tuesday. They took a 50-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of Nation Ford.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Emily Callahan, who posted 16 points and seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Lila Leung, who put up five points and nine rebounds.
Even though they lost, Indian Land smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 24 consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, Catawba Ridge played a tough game on Monday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by Lexington 64-23. The match marked the Copperheads' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Indian Land will have to contain Brooke Berninzoni as she made an impact in Catawba Ridge's last game. She posted five points and five rebounds.
Catawba Ridge's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Indian Land, their loss dropped their record down to 4-11.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Indian Land has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 36.3 boards per game. However, it's not like Catawba Ridge struggles in that department as they've been averaging 28.1 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Indian Land came up short against Catawba Ridge when the teams last played back in February of 2024, falling 49-41. Thankfully for Indian Land, Morgan Davis (who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 13 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
