Softball Recap: Cleveland Makes It Three in a Row on the Road

Cleveland gave up the first runs on Monday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with a 10-7 victory over the Decatur Heritage Christian Academy Eagles.

Memorie Coker tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Makenna Hayes, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 4-for-5. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March. Natalie Smith also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Cleveland kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Cleveland pushed their record up to 13-19 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Decatur Heritage Christian Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-15-2.

Cleveland didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 16-9 loss against Appalachian on the 15th. As for Decatur Heritage Christian Academy, they have also already played their next matchup, a 3-0 defeat against Falkville on the 15th.
