After two games on the road, Winfield is heading back home. They will take on the Hurricane Redskins at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Saturday, Winfield came up short against Lewis County and fell 51-41.
Despite their defeat, Winfield saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Antonela Johnson, who scored 11 points along with five assists and two steals, was perhaps the best of all. Ashlee Johnson was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with seven rebounds.
Hurricane suffered their biggest loss since December 5, 2023 last Wednesday. They were outmatched by St. Albans on the road and fell 66-32. That's two games in a row now that Hurricane has lost by exactly 34 points.
Hurricane's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Alexandra Andrerson, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds, and Gabby Quijano who scored 11 points along with five rebounds.
Winfield's defeat dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Hurricane, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-5.
Thursday's matchup is shaping up to be a scrappy match: Winfield have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 30.3 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Hurricane, though, as they've been averaging only 29.5 rebounds per game. Given Winfield's sizeable advantage in that area, Hurricane will need to find a way to close that gap.
Winfield beat Hurricane 48-36 in their previous meeting back in November of 2023. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Andrerson, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds.
