Division II A - West District 2 recap Sept. 26, 2012
Fayette Academy's Blake Douglass rumbled for the longest rushing play in Division II A - West District 2 this season in his game against Bishop Byrne last week. Douglass scampered for 78 yards on the play and finished with 155 on the day as his team beat the Red Knights.
University School of Jackson extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Southern Baptist, 40-12. This was the team's sixth consecutive win.
University School of Jackson's dynamic duo of Ryan Garner and Austin Orr proved tough for the Trojans to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Garner threw for 185 yards and three touchdowns and Orr had 97 yards receiving. Powers Spencer helped University School of Jackson's passing attack out by catching four balls for 32 yards.
Jason Stephens made the biggest impact on defense this week as Fayette Academy topped Bishop Byrne. The junior grabbed one interception.
Marcus Miller was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 165 yards on 13 carries as Vic Shivers's team defeated Southern Baptist.
The Bruins' Garner and Orr have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading Division II A - West District 2 in both passing and receiving yards. Garner has thrown for 1199 yards this season, while Orr has 37 catches for 546 yards. The Vikings' Miller leads the league in rushing yards with 638.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when University School of Jackson takes on Fayette Academy. As it stands, the Bruins are in first, while the Vikings are in third.
There should be lots of points scored when University School of Jackson and Fayette Academy face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Bruins comes in having scored 205 this season, while the Vikings have scored 225. University School of Jackson scored 40 points last week as it defeated the Trojans.
Fayette Academy took down Rod Gaston's team 45-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Miller in the win.
