Jennings County and Charlestown are an even 3-3 against one another since May of 2022, but likely not for long. The Panthers will take on the Pirates at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Jennings County is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.
Jennings County is headed into the contest having just suffered their biggest defeat since April 11th on Thursday. They lost 12-1 to Floyd Central.
Meanwhile, Charlestown got the win against Lanesville on Tuesday by a conclusive 15-5. Considering the Pirates have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Ashtyn Sheppard was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Avarie Freiberger, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Charlestown always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .513. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lanesville only posted an OBP of .240.
Charlestown is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Jennings County, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 16-8.
Saturday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Jennings County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .343. However, it's not like Charlestown struggles in that department as they've averaged .352. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Jennings County beat Charlestown 5-1 when the teams last played back in May of 2025. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
