The Gilmer Bobcats fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They came out on top against Dawson County by a score of 31-24 on Friday. For Gilmer, this counts as revenge for the 17-7 defeat Dawson County walked away with the last time they faced one another back in October of 2022.
Aspen Hataway was a one-man wrecking crew for Gilmer as he rushed for 143 yards and three touchdowns on only 14 carries. Hataway's longest rush was for an incredible 71 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Douglas Callihan, who rushed for 81 yards.
Gilmer's win was their fifth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 6-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 34.8 points per game. As for Dawson County, they have fallen quite a ways from their 8-3 record last season and are now at 2-7.
Gilmer will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on White County at 7:30 p.m. on November 3rd. As for Dawson County, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Lumpkin County at 7:30 p.m. Lumpkin County will be coming into the game with an undefeated record on the line.
