After taking the lead on a touchdown pass by
Dylan Osborne to
Luis Vecchio in the first quarter,
Villa Park (Calif.) led 32-9 at the half.
The Spartans expanded their lead to 30 points entering the fourth quarter. Villa Park's lone score in the quarter came on a Osborne touchdown pass to Vecchio.
With the win VP extended its winning streak to six games. The Spartans defeated the Wildcats 31-26 last week.
Chris Prescott played well for Canyon (Anaheim, Calif.). The junior wide receiver caught one touchdown. His performance brought his touchdown total to six on the year.
The Comanches' lone touchdown came on a 25-yard pass from undefined to Prescott in the second quarter.
Villa Park entered the contest giving up 19.6 points per game this year. The defense really stepped up, holding Canyon well below its season average of 21.0 points scored per game.
The Spartans also won the meeting between the two teams last season, 63-0.
The defeat comes as a step back for Canyon, which notched a 34-28 victory over El Modena in its previous outing.
Villa Park (8-1) goes up against Esperanza in a Century game matchup next week, while Canyon (3-6) locks horns with Foothill also in a Century game.
