Elizabeth Ferrell made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Katie Gable, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask New Oxford). They were the clear victors by a 19-2 margin over William Penn on Wednesday. The Colonials might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by six runs or more this season.
Like Central York, New Oxford also got a great game from a two-way player: Emily Adams. She pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Adams was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Isabelle Donnelly was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, six RBI, and three runs. Another player making a difference was Bailey Moser, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and one RBI.
New Oxford always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .621. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as William Penn only posted an OBP of .357.
Central York's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for New Oxford, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season.
Both Central York and New Oxford just can't seem to miss. The Panthers have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.3 hits per game. However, it's not like New Oxford struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.4 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
