Elgin had already won eight in a row and they went ahead and made it nine on Saturday. They came within a single set of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Tree of Life Christian Trojans. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Comets have posted since October 16, 2024.
Elgin had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next two. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 21-25, 25-18, 25-23.
Elgin got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kadence Gear out in front who had eight kills, six digs, three aces, and one block. Gear is on a roll when it comes to kills, as she's now had five or more in each of the last 18 games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Maycee Muselin, who had six kills, five digs, four aces, and two blocks.
They weren't the only good servers: Elgin was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 11 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least ten aces in three consecutive matchups.
When it comes to explaining why Tree of Life Christian lost, don't look at Megan Donnally. Despite the final result, she had 15 assists and 13 digs. Allegra Santamaria also deserves some recognition as she had her first block of the season.
Elgin's record now sits at 11-2. As for Tree of Life Christian, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-7.
Elgin didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 2-0 defeat against Pleasant on the 20th. As for Tree of Life Christian, they have also already played their next contest, a 2-1 victory against Spencerville on the 20th.
