The Diboll Lumberjacks are still undefeated this season after their match against the West Hardin Oilers on Saturday, but the West Hardin Oilers came as close as anyone has to beating them. Diboll had just enough and edged West Hardin out 54-51. Given Diboll's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 324th, while West Hardin is ranked 961st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Diboll to victory, but perhaps none more so than Zach Mitchell, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds. That makes it two consecutive games in which Mitchell has scored at least 25% of Diboll's points. Latavian Forney was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with 3 steals.
Diboll's victory bumped their record up to 4-0. As for West Hardin, they now have a losing record at 3-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Diboll will take on Shepherd at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Shepherd focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Saturday. As for West Hardin, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Broaddus at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Broaddus is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.
