Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school football. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2024 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.
Cutter Woods of
Westside (Anderson) is the 2024 MaxPreps South Carolina High School Football Player of the Year. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound senior quarterback led the Rams to a 13-1 record and Class AAAA runner-up finish.
For the season, Woods threw for 3,469 yards and 43
touchdowns. He completed 66.7 percent of his passes and only threw three
interceptions on 249 attempts. He also rushed for 273 yards and
four more scores.

In a 42-41 loss to South Florence (Florence) in the state championship game, Woods completed 11 of 19 passes for 421 yards and six touchdowns. He added four carries for 42 yards on the ground. He threw a 50-yard touchdown pass to
Chamarryus Bomar with 1:52 left to cut the deficit to 42-41. The Rams elected to go for two but came up short, seeing their 27-game win streak come to an end.
Woods was named the MaxPreps South Carolina Player of the Year as a junior after leading Westside to its first state title since 1969. He threw for 3,915 yards and 42 touchdowns while adding 345 yards on the ground and five more scores.
247Sports regards Woods as one of the top 50 senior quarterback prospects in the country. He signed with South Carolina earlier this month after fielding 15 other FBS offers.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team.
