Basketball Recap: Wilson Hall Skates Past Cardinal Newman with Ease

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Wilson Hall had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They took their game with ease, bagging a 69-32 victory over the Cardinal Newman Cardinals. The Barons have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matchups by 21 points or more this season.

Leading Wilson Hall to victory were Ford Wilder and Shawn Michael Matthews. Wilder on his way to 20 points and three steals, while Matthews en route to 12 points and seven assists. Matthews is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Michael Lauzon, who posted 12 points.

They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: Wilson Hall was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cardinal Newman only two assists.

Despite the defeat, Cardinal Newman saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Luis Echevarria to rack up 23 points. That was a full 71.9% of Cardinal Newman's points, marking the 12th time in a row Echevarria has scored more than a third of the team's points.

Wilson Hall has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.7 points over those games. Cardinal Newman is on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-16.

Wilson Hall didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 66-58 loss against Pinewood Prep on the 17th. Cardinal Newman does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
