Towanda hasn't had much luck against Canton recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Black Knights will be playing at home against the Warriors at 4:30 p.m. Towanda is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
Towanda took a 12-run defeat the last time they faced off against Elk Lake, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Black Knights narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Warriors 9-7.
The team relied heavily on Gianni Assante, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. That home run was his first of the season.
Meanwhile, Canton scored first but ultimately less than Williamson in their matchup on Tuesday. They came up short against Williamson, falling 22-13. Canton has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Reed Taylor put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Taylor was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Mason Stierly made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Luke Crawley was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
Canton now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Towanda, the win got them back to even at 2-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Towanda has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Canton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Towanda suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Canton when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Black Knights have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
