Winchester Community is 0-4 against Adams Central since May of 2015 but things could change on Tuesday. Alyssa Cole spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on ten hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Winchester Community saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Anevicia Ramos, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI. Mahala Willis also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Bluffton hit Adams Central with a four-run first inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Flying Jets fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 8-7. Even though they lost, the Flying Jets' still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 6.1 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).
Melina Peralez made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs. Another player making a difference was Andrea Isch, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Adams Central has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 11 of their last 13 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-16 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games. As for Winchester Community, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season.
Adams Central's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Winchester Community has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.1 hits per game. It's a different story for Adams Central, though, as they've been averaging 12.8 hits. Given Winchester Community's sizable advantage in that area, the Flying Jets will need to find a way to close that gap.
