Basketball Recap: Austin Duncan's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Kent Denver over Denver Christian

If Kent Denver was feeling good fresh off their 70-41 takedown of Eagle Ridge Academy last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Kent Denver Sun Devils fell 47-39 to the Denver Christian Thunder on Thursday. The Sun Devils were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Thunder apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2017.

Several Sun Devils players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Austin Duncan, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds. Duncan is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down 11 or more in the last seven games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Caroline Phillips, who posted eight points and five steals.

Denver Christian's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Fabiana Genc, who had nine points and eight rebounds. That's the most points Genc has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Teagan Fuller, who scored 15 points.

With the loss, Kent Denver broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 6-10. As for Denver Christian, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 13-1.

Kent Denver has already played their next matchup, a 71-20 victory against Stargate School on the 28th. As for Denver Christian, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 61-39 win against Dayspring Christian Academy on the 25th.
