Marion is a perfect 4-0 against Mason County Eastern since May of 2024 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the Cardinals at 4:15 p.m.
Monday just wasn't the day for Marion's offense. They came up short against Vestaburg on Monday, falling 17-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Eagles have suffered since April 20th.
Meanwhile, Mason County Eastern can bid farewell to their five-game losing streak thanks to their game on Monday. Everything went their way against Baldwin as they made off with a 16-1 win. The Cardinals' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Aaron Drake made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Mason County Eastern is 2-0-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 0-5 otherwise. Drake was also big at the plate, earning two RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2025.
In other batting news, Mason County Eastern got a massive performance out of Josh Rogers, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave Rogers a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Arik Verschueren, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs.
Mason County Eastern always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .708. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Marion's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-4. As for Mason County Eastern, their victory bumped their record up to 2-5-1.
Marion was able to grind out a solid win over Mason County Eastern in their previous meeting back in May of 2025, winning 5-1. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Cardinals have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
