Basketball Recap: McAllen Gets the Win

If Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played McAllen, they should've done a better job of containing Olivia Gonzalez. The McAllen Bulldogs simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial Wolverines 48-18 thanks in part to Gonzalez, who went 5 of 10 on her way to 14 points. That's the most points she has posted since back in November of 2024.

The team also got some help courtesy of Hailey Martinez, who posted five points and five steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played.

McAllen's victory bumped their record up to 18-15. As for Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial, their defeat was their 18th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-19.

McAllen and Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. McAllen (ranked 635th) will meet Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North (ranked 293rd) at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial will square off against Sharyland at 6:00 p.m. on Friday down 762 places (1280 vs. 518).
