Basketball Recap: Centennial Comes Up Short

Centennial was the 48-37 winner over Mountain View when they last played one another back in November of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Centennial Patriots were dealt a 62-31 loss at the hands of the Mountain View Mavericks on Tuesday.

Centennial lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Pepper Smith, who posted six points and eight boards. Smith is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Aaliyah Wilson, who earned seven points and five boards.

Even though they lost, Centennial smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in five consecutive games.

Leading Mountain View to victory were Quincy Keller and Dyllan Linville. Keller went 5 of 7 on her way to 14 points and five assists, while Linville scored eight points and seven rebounds. The dominant performance gave Linville a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaylee Steinwand, who put up five points and six boards.

Centennial dropped their record down to 7-13 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight at home. As for Mountain View, their win ended a seven-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-13.

Centennial has already played their next match, a 58-42 loss against Kuna on the 30th. As for Mountain View, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 42-32 defeat against Borah on the 30th.
