3A District 4 recap October 1, 2013
Fort Meade moved up to 118 from 160 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 3A District 4. The Miners were able to move up by beating Bartow 31-28.
Lakeland Christian added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Avon Park, 49-14. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
Kyle Ploucher threw for 207 yards and 3 touchdowns. He went 17-20 with 0 interception.
T. J. Simmons was the best running back in the league this week. In 12 carries, he ran for 134 yards as Lakeland Christian topped Cardinal Mooney. Brad Peace also contributed to the rushing game with 37 yards on the ground.
The Crusaders' Ploucher and Justin Motlow have formed a dream team this season, leading 3A District 4 in both passing and receiving yards. Ploucher has thrown for 833 yards this season, while Motlow, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 26 catches for 288 yards. Simmons from Wayne Peace's team leads the league in rushing with 851 yards.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Tampa Catholic takes on Frostproof. At the moment, Mike Gregory's team is in second, while the Bulldogs are in third.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Crusaders take on Frostproof. Tampa Catholic has allowed 56 points this season, while Price Harris' team has given up 32. The Crusaders allowed 0 points last week as they beat the Cougars.
Tampa Catholic took down Cardinal Mooney 43-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Ploucher ran for 64 yards during the win.
