After flying high against the San Tan Foothills Sabercats last Friday, the Florence Gophers came back down to earth. Florence suffered a rough 51-30 defeat at the hands of Pusch Ridge Christian Academy on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Florence has suffered against Pusch Ridge Christian Academy since December 21, 2016.
Several Gophers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Keylee Scarbrough, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Aubrey Farmer, who scored nine points along with three steals.
Pusch Ridge Christian Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Hannah Johnson out in front who scored nine points along with four steals. Noelle Sunukjian was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Florence has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season. As for Pusch Ridge Christian Academy, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Florence will take on Gilbert Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Pusch Ridge Christian Academy, they will be playing at home against Palo Verde at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
