Aberdeen (Miss.) captured the lead in the fourth quarter and held on for a 20-13 victory over
Water Valley (Miss.) on Saturday. The Bulldogs captured the lead for good when
Josh Williams thew a touchdown to
Kenric McCoy.
After trailing 12-7 at the half, the Blue Devils went ahead on a
Brandon Bounds touchdown run with 9:00 left in the fourth. Aberdeen grabbed hold of the lead when Williams thew a touchdown to McCoy with 5:00 to go in the fourth quarter, and never relinquished it.
The loss snapped Water Valley's 4-game winning streak.
AHS's most effective player was Williams. He threw two touchdowns. He has now scored nine touchdowns on the season.
Bounds made a difference for WV. The sophomore running back ran for two touchdowns. He has now scored seven touchdowns on the season.
The Bulldogs entered the contest giving up 19.6 points per game this year. Aberdeen held firm on the defensive front, and kept the Blue Devils well below the 39.1 points it had been averaging per game.
AHS got revenge for last year's 20-14 loss to Water Valley with the victory.
The defeat comes as a step back for Water Valley, which notched a 33-13 victory over Nettleton in its previous outing.
Aberdeen (8-2) will play a 3A Region 2 game against South Pontotoc next week, while Water Valley (8-2) will take on Mantachie also in a 3A Region 2 game.
