West Sequoia recap Oct. 16, 2012
Minarets led West Sequoia in scoring this week after putting up 57 points on Riverdale. Keenan Reardon threw for 23 yards and ran for 206 yards in the win.
Fowler's dynamic duo of James Silva and Donald Sherman proved tough for Orange Cove to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Silva threw for 76 yards and two touchdowns and Sherman had 36 yards receiving. Jared Schneider helped Fowler's passing attack out by catching one ball for 25 yards.
Kevin Sundberg made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Redcats bested the Titans. The 6-foot-2 senior recorded one fumble and racked up two sacks.
Fowler's Silva and Hugo Martinez have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Silva has thrown for 993 yards this season, while Martinez, a 5-foot-7 receiver, has 27 catches for 237 yards. Reardon from the Mustangs leads the league in rushing with 554 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Steve Nelson's team takes on Minarets. The Redcats are currently in first, while Jay Smoljan's team is in third.
There should be lots of points scored when Fowler and the Mustangs face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Redcats comes in having scored 228 this season, while Minarets has scored 159. Fowler scored 38 points last week as it topped Orange Cove.
The Mustangs made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 14,197 from 14,295. The improvement came about via a 57-0 victory over the Cowboys last week.
