The 6-foot-8, 290-pound tackle left practice early today to drive to Rutgers and give head coach Greg Schiano his verbal commitment.
He chose Rutgers over offers from Pittsburgh, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
Also a gifted basketball player, Lumpkin decided to dedicate himself to football. His frame and athleticism made him a highly-coveted recruit at the tackle position.
He’s the teammate of two other players that Rutgers is seeking to land - safety
Sheldon Royster and running back
Savon Huggins.
Royster is also being recruited by Pitt, North Carolina, and South Carolina, among others. Huggins, the No. 49 player in the class of 2011, has offers from coast to coast.
Scarlet Knight fans hope that Lumpkin’s commitment can lead to a domino effect that will help Schiano gain commitments from both Royster and Huggins.
Lumpkin joins a recruiting class that features quarterback
Mike Bimonte, running backs
Chevelle Buie and
Charles Davis, and defensive tackle
Daryl Stephenson.
