Softball Recap: Danbury Wins Going Away Against Westhill

While Danbury didn't have the best season last year (they finished 4-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past the Westhill Vikings 16-0 on Wednesday. That looming 16-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Hatters yet this season.

Jacqueline Marks made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Chloe Trimandilis and Sophie O'Connell did most of the damage at the plate: Trimandilis went 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one double, while O'Connell went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most RBI Trimandilis has posted since back in April of 2024. Nataly Jimenez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Danbury always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Danbury pushed their record up to 8-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Westhill, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Danbury will host McMahon at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Westhill, they will welcome Ludlowe at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Falcons' pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so the Vikings' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
