Peyton has gone a perfect 3-0 against Burlington recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Panthers are taking a road trip to take on the Cougars at 10:00 a.m. Peyton will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
Peyton can't be too worried about heading out to take on Burlington: they just beat La Veta at home, who had been dominant on their own field up to that point. The Panthers came out on top against the Redhawks by a score of 12-7 on Wednesday. 12 seems to be a good number for the Panthers as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Noah Martin and Bryce Compton made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Martin pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Compton pitched 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. At the plate, Martin went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs, while Compton got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Colton Cobb, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Brennan Christiansen also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Peyton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .400 or higher in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Burlington owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Thursday. They put the hurt on Stratton with a sharp 8-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won five in a row.
Daxton Skarphol made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over 6.1 innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Burlington is 4-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-7 otherwise. Skarphol was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one double.
In other batting news, Scout Humrich was incredible, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Rowdy Humrich was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Burlington pushed their record up to 6-8 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Peyton, their record is now 13-1.
Burlington's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Peyton has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.5 hits per game. It's a different story for Burlington, though, as they've been averaging 9 hits. Given Peyton's sizable advantage in that area, the Cougars will need to find a way to close that gap.
Peyton was able to grind out a solid victory over Burlington when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 8-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
