Jefferson has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against The Gladewater Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Friday, Jefferson made easy work of Atlanta and carried off a 49-29 victory. The result was nothing new for Jefferson, who have now won five matches by 20 points or more so far this season.
Kamran Williams continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 200 yards and two touchdowns. Williams is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last six games he's played. Jeramaine Hopkins also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Gladewater had to endure a seven-game losing streak dating back to last season, but that streak is no more. They managed a 48-42 victory over Sabine on Friday. The victory was just what Gladewater needed coming off of a 41-21 loss in their prior matchup.
Gladewater's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Carsin Cooper, who rushed for 239 yards and a touchdown while picking up 14.1 yards per carry. Kyron Wilson was another major influence, as he rushed for 132 yards and ran in a TD.
Jefferson has been no stranger to the win column this season, as they've started out with wins in five of their first six contests, giving them a 5-1 record. Finally capturing their first win of the season, Gladewater advanced to 1-6.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Jefferson has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 293 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Gladewater struggles in that department as they've been averaging 170.1 per game. It's looking like Friday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Jefferson was able to grind out a solid win over Gladewater when the teams last played back in October of 2022, winning 42-35. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Gladewater's Davaunte Powers, who rushed for 112 yards and three touchdowns. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be that much easier for Jefferson to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
