The Walkertown Wolfpack will challenge the Lexington Yellowjackets at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Walkertown is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.4 runs per game this season.
Walkertown will bounce into Wednesday's contest after beating McMichael, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. Walkertown came out on top against McMichael by a score of 9-5 on Tuesday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Caden Joyce was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. Devin Blodgett was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI.
Meanwhile, Lexington was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They lost 13-7 to South Davidson.
Element Shivers put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases.
In other pitching news, Lexington got a good showing from Max O'Connell, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
Back at the plate, Wyatt Griffith was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Dale Clodfelter, who scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
Lexington's loss dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Walkertown, their win bumped their record up to 10-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Walkertown has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Lexington struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Walkertown took their victory against Lexington in their previous matchup back in February by a conclusive 19-1. Will Walkertown repeat their success, or does Lexington has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
