After a string of four wins, the LaPoynor Flyers's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell 72-65 to Martins Mill. While losing is never fun, LaPoynor can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 370th, while Martins Mill is ranked 160th).
Jak Kinder was his usual excellent self, scoring 37 points along with seven assists and five rebounds for Martins Mill. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Kinder has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Archer Schneider, who scored 17 points along with six assists.
LaPoynor's defeat ended an eight-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 21-10. As for Martins Mill, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 27-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. LaPoynor will challenge Frankston at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. LaPoynor knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 24 matchups -- so hopefully Frankston likes a good challenge. As for Martins Mill, they will head out on the road to square off against Kerens at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Martins Mill is facing Kerens at the right time seeing as Kerens is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
