The Pawhuska Huskies were the 57-39 winner over the Wesleyan Christian Mustangs when they last played one another back in January of 2019, but their luck changed this time around. Pawhuska opened the new year with a less-than-successful 52-46 loss to they on Saturday. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma basketball rankings (they are ranked 231st, while Wesleyan Christian is ranked 90th).
When it comes to explaining why Pawhuska lost, one person who can't be blamed is Trenton Miles. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds. The contest was Miles' ninth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jonathan Garrison, who scored nine points.
This is the second loss in a row for Pawhuska and nudges their season record down to 5-4. As for Wesleyan Christian, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-2 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pawhuska and Hominy will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 9th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. As for Wesleyan Christian, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Barnsdall at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
