The Newcomb Skyhawks will head out on the road to face off against the Thoreau Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Newcomb focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 31 on Thursday.
After soaring to 64 points the game before, Newcomb were a bit more limited in their contest. They were outmatched by Navajo Prep on the road and fell 81-21. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Newcomb has scored all season.
Despite the defeat, Newcomb had strong showings from Roydell Edison, who scored five points, and Mikal Ashley, who scored four points.
Meanwhile, Thoreau had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They put the hurt on Crownpoint with a sharp 82-57 win. Thoreau has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matchups by 25 points or more this season.
Newcomb's loss dropped their record down to 12-7. As for Thoreau, their win ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-11.
Newcomb strolled past the Hawks when the teams last played back in January by a score of 74-59. The rematch might be a little tougher for Newcomb since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
