The Council Grove Braves will head out on the road to face off against the Hillsboro Trojans at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Council Grove focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Friday.
Council Grove's nine-game losing streak dating back to last season came to an end. They walked away with a 61-48 win over Northern Heights. That looming 61-48 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Council Grove yet this season.
Council Grove's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Kolby Rose, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds and four steals, and Brycen Palmquist, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds and four steals. That makes it five consecutive games in which Palmquist has scored at least 25% of Council Grove's points. Another player making a difference was Hayden Buttrey, who scored two points along with eight assists and four steals.
Meanwhile, Hillsboro came up short against Southeast of Saline on Friday and fell 62-50. Hillsboro has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Council Grove's win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-4. As for Hillsboro, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 1-4.
Council Grove won a contest that couldn't have been any closer when the teams last played back in December of 2022, slipping by Hillsboro 52-51. The rematch might be a little tougher for Council Grove since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
