Makenzie Henthorn made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mikaila Warfield, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Shyanne Sellers, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
Mark Morris kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in ten consecutive games.
Columbia River hit Hockinson with a six-run sixth inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Hawks came up short against the Rapids, falling 13-1. The Hawks have struggled against the Rapids recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.
Hockinson saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Renee Waddle, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Mark Morris' win was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-0. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Hockinson, their loss dropped their record down to 5-8.
Hockinson's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Mark Morris has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.6 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Hockinson, though, as they've been averaging only 3.8 strikeouts. Will Mark Morris keep running through batters, or will the Hawks buck the trend?
Everything went Mark Morris' way against Hockinson in their previous meeting back in March, as Mark Morris made off with a 19-3 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Monarchs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
