Vin Forte spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on two hits and racked up 13 Ks. He has become a key player for Canton: the team is undefeated when he posts at least eight strikeouts, but 5-11 otherwise.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Noah Asmar, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Canton is 2-1 when Asmar posts two or more runs, but 6-10 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Oden Berg, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, East Windsor didn't have quite enough to beat Windsor Locks on Tuesday and fell 6-5.
Elias Jacobs put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over 6.2 innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Evan Witzke made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.
East Windsor dropped their record down to 3-12 with the loss, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Canton, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-11.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Canton has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like East Windsor struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Canton's way against East Windsor when the teams last played back in May of 2023, as Canton made off with a 14-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Warriors since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
