The St. John Fighting Herald had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24.5 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Wednesday. They walked away with a 44-31 victory over Bristol. The score was all tied up 21-21 at the break, but St. John was the (much) better team in the second half.
Mickey Zheng was her usual excellent self, scoring 17 points along with seven steals and five rebounds. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last nine games she's played. alyssa cevera was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Several Panthers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Lauren Church, who scored four points along with 11 rebounds and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Payton Brook, who scored seven points along with ten rebounds.
St. John is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests, which provided a massive bump to their 10-9 record this season. As for Bristol, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 9-11.
St. John will square off against Mathews at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Bristol, they will be playing at home against Garfield at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
