For the first time this season, Montague will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will be playing in front of their home fans against the Fremont Packers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Montague is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last three games.
On Wednesday, Montague was able to grind out a solid win over Muskegon Catholic Central, taking the game 7-3.
Montague's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Robbie Smith, who went 1-for-3 with two runs. Cooper Bradley was another, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Fremont made easy work of Hesperia on Thursday and carried off a 10-2 win. The Packers haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Deagan Klimek was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Caleb Vissia, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Chase Mercer, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Fremont hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive contests.
Montague's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 3-4-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Fremont, the win got them back to even at 4-4.
