For the first time this season, Calabasas will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will host the Thousand Oaks Lancers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 48-21, which was the final score in Calabasas' tilt against Los Alamitos on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Coyotes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 163rd, while the Griffins are ranked 11th).
Despite the loss, Calabasas had strong showings from Kayne Miller, who rushed for 125 yards and one TD on only 13 carries, and Dominik Hardy, who threw for 203 yards and one touchdown.
Meanwhile, Thousand Oaks came up short against Simi Valley last Friday, falling 48-28. The Lancers haven't had much luck with the Pioneers recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.
Calabasas will need to focus on slowing down Jackson Taylor, one of several Thousand Oaks players who made an impact when they last played. He threw for 251 yards and four TDs. Taylor has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last four times he's played. Hayden Vercher was Taylor's top target, picking up 100 receiving yards and a pair of scores.
Having lost for the first time this season, Thousand Oaks fell to 4-1. As for Calabasas, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.
We should be in store for an exciting game as the two teams have no problem gaining yardage. Calabasas has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 378.4 total yards per game. However, it's not like Thousand Oaks struggles in that department as they've been averaging 354.8 total yards. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them.
Calabasas was dealt a bruising 37-0 loss at the hands of Thousand Oaks in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Will the Coyotes have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other football content.
