The Brookfield Warriors's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 57-33 walloping at the hands of Newton Falls. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Brookfield has scored all season.
Brookfield's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Matteo Fortuna, who scored 12 points along with two steals. Fortuna is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last ten games he's played.
Newton Falls was led to victory by Carson Howard and Jabriel Rufai. Howard scored 22 points, while Rufai scored 18 points along with six rebounds and six steals. That's the first time this season that Howard scored 15 or more points. Zach Stinson was another key contributor, scoring three points along with five rebounds and three blocks.
Brookfield bumped their record down to 4-7 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Newton Falls, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Brookfield will take on Garfield at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Garfield focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Friday. Newton Falls won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Southeast at 2:15 p.m. on January 13th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Ohio (Southeast is ranked 365th, while Newton Falls is ranked 343rd).
