The Avon Eagles will head out to challenge the Brunswick Blue Devils at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Avon is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.
On Thursday, Avon came up short against Riverside and fell 8-4.
Colten Fitch made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Mateus Porter also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Brunswick ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They walked away with a 10-7 win over Strongsville. The game was the first time the Blue Devils have beaten the Mustangs on their field since May 2, 2022.
Ryan Maslyk looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Connor Adams was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Poindexter, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Brunswick was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .410. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Brunswick is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Avon, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-13.
Avon took their win against Brunswick when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 15-5 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
