Jo Byrns (Cedar Hill, Tenn.) captured the lead in the fourth quarter and held on for a 20-14 victory over
Houston County (Erin, Tenn.) on Saturday. The Red Devils captured the lead for good when
Kevin Adkins thew a touchdown to
Jake Hyde.
After taking the lead on a defensive touchdown, the Fighting Irish went into halftime with a 14-6 lead. The Red Devils took the lead for good with a Adkins touchdown pass to Hyde in the fourth quarter.
The loss snapped Houston County's 5-game winning streak.
Jo Byrns' standout player in the win was
James Wakefield. The senior running back ran for two touchdowns.
Hunter Moran made a difference for HC. The junior running back ran for one touchdown. He has now scored seven touchdowns on the season.
Coming into the game JB had allowed 18.2 points per game this year. The defense really stepped up, holding the Erin school well below its season average of 22.4 points scored per game.
Last season's game between the teams resulted in a 41-2 win for the Red Devils.
The loss comes after Houston County defeated Stewart County 28-14 last week. The victory was a step in the right direction for Jo Byrns, which was coming off a 40-6 defeat at the hands of Cheatham County Central in its previous game.
Jo Byrns (4-3) will play a A District 10 game against Clarksville Academy next week, while Houston County (5-1) will take on Clarksville Academy also in a A District 10 game.
