Basketball Recap: Southwood Sets Scoring Season-High Against Madison-Grant

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Southwood). They blew past the Madison-Grant Argylls 52-26 on Saturday. That's more bragging rights for the Knights, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Southwood found their leader in sophomore Hali Pershing, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds. Gracie Lambert was another key player, putting up eight points and three steals.

Southwood smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive board total in three consecutive contests.

Despite the loss, Madison-Grant saw an underclassman step up: freshman Grace Wood went 5 of 10 on her way to 14 points and seven rebounds. That's the most points Wood has posted since back in November of 2024.

Southwood's victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-11. As for Madison-Grant, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-13 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Southwood will host Peru at 7:45 p.m. on Thursday. As for Madison-Grant, they will welcome Taylor at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
