First Baptist has been on the road for nine straight, but on Tuesday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Lake Region Christian Hornets at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully First Baptist is not getting complacent considering they own a much higher rank in Minnesota (they are ranked 104th, while Lake Region Christian is ranked 363rd).
Last Tuesday, First Baptist slipped by Rochester Area HomeSchool 54-53.
First Baptist relied on the efforts of Keira Wynja, who scored 15 points along with six assists and six rebounds, and Lydia Wynja, who scored 27 points along with seven rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Wynja has scored all season. Maya McKinney was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Meanwhile, Lake Region Christian's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their 11th straight defeat. They were the victim of a rough 49-23 loss at the hands of Chisago Lakes Baptist. Lake Region Christian has not had much luck with Chisago Lakes Baptist recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Despite the loss, Lake Region Christian saw an underclassman step up: Tamara DeVries scored eight points along with six rebounds.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Lake Region Christian struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Chisago Lakes Baptist racked up 17 assists.
First Baptist pushed their record up to 18-5 with that victory, which was their seventh straight on the road. As for Lake Region Christian, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost 13 of their last 14 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-18 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: First Baptist have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 38.1 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Lake Region Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 27 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything came up roses for First Baptist against Lake Region Christian when the teams last played back in December of 2023 as the team secured a 49-13 victory. Will First Baptist repeat their success, or does Lake Region Christian have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
