Adding to the longest winning streak in Southwest this week, Newtown beat Wolcott 56-14. The win marks sixth in a row for the the Nighthawks.
Stratford was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from 11th to ninth in the league. The Red Devils vanquished Kennedy 21-18 earlier in the week.
Newtown's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Andrew Tarantino threw for 279 and 3 touchdowns and Julian Dunn had 93 yards receiving. On the ground Cooper Gold chipped in 293 yards. Troy Frangione helped Newtown's passing attack out by catching 6 balls for 95 yards.
Gold was a force in the backfield as Steven George's team beat the Eagles.
Gold was a passing and rushing force as the Nighthawks topped Wolcott. Gold's favorite target this week was Dunn, who caught 6 passes for 93 yards.
Gold was the best running back in the league this week. In 21 carries, he ran for 293 yards as Newtown bested Jason Pace's team. Teammate Nick Lotrecchiano added to the ground attack by rushing for 63 yards.
Leading Southwest in both passing and receiving yards, the Nighthawks' Tarantino and Dunn have proven to be a lethal combination. 5-11 quarterback Tarantino has thrown for 1,587 yards this season, while Dunn has 29 catches for 676 yards. Brookfield's Bobby Drysdale leads the league in rushing yards with 989.
The Bobcats' Drysdale is a mere 11 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season. In 84 carries Drysdale has accumulated 989 yard this year.
The Wolverines are currently in fourth, while Brookfield is in third.
Stratford and the Eagles played the closest game in the league this week, with Stratford eventually emerging with a 21-18 victory.
