The Vinemont Eagles will square off against the Westbrook Christian Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
Two weeks ago, Vinemont took a blow against Winfield, falling 47-7. The Eagles have struggled against the Pirates recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Vinemont got top-tier performance from Josh Rhodes, who rushed for 86 yards and one TD on only seven carries.
Meanwhile, Westbrook Christian waltzed into their contest on Friday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They took their matchup with ease, bagging a 48-6 win over the Panthers. Given the Warriors' advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama football rankings (they are ranked 92nd, while the Panthers are ranked 255th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
Vinemont better keep an eye on Brody Blevins. He was instrumental in Westbrook Christian's win, throwing for 172 yards and three touchdowns while completing 73.7% of his passes. Blevins is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in each of the last three games he's played. Brodey Wood helped Blevins out on the ground, rushing for 57 yards and one score on only six carries.
Special teams was a major factor in the game for Westbrook Christian, racking up 18 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Gavin Michael, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Westbrook Christian's defense and their three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Easton Skaggs, Jonathan Hersman, and Carter Cothran, who each picked up one sack apiece.
Westbrook Christian's record is now 9-1. As for Vinemont, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-4.
Vinemont was taken down by Westbrook Christian 35-0 in their previous matchup back in September of 2019. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
