Buffalo is 0-10 against Charleston Catholic since January of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Buffalo Bison will be home for the holidays to greet the Charleston Catholic Irish at 7:00 p.m. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Buffalo came tearing into Saturday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 32-21 victory over Poca. Despite the victory, that was the fewest points Buffalo has scored all season.
Buffalo got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Anna Boggess out in front who scored seven points along with nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Lauren White, who scored eight points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Charleston Catholic slipped by Bridgeport 44-43 last Saturday. The win was just what Charleston Catholic needed coming off of a 68-29 loss in their prior contest.
Charleston Catholic found their leader in underclassman Mary Rushworth, who scored 25 points along with five rebounds and four steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Rushworth has scored at least 25% of Charleston Catholic's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Layla Carter, who scored nine points along with six rebounds.
Buffalo's victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Charleston Catholic, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Buffalo have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 22.4 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Charleston Catholic, though, as they've been averaging only 25.7 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Buffalo might still be hurting after the 56-32 defeat they got from Charleston Catholic in their previous meeting back in February. The game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Buffalo was down 36-10.
