Basketball Game Preview: Montpelier Solons vs. U-32 Raiders

Montpelier has gone 10-0 against U-32 recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Montpelier Solons are taking a road trip to challenge the U-32 Raiders at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Montpelier has four straight victories, U-32 has eight straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Montpelier is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Vermont's top teams: Spaulding, who was ranked 16th at the time (Montpelier was ranked first). Montpelier claimed a resounding 86-38 win over Spaulding. That 48 point margin sets a new team best for the Solons this season.

Montpelier's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Clayton Foster led the charge by going 6 for 8 on his way to 16 points and four steals. With that strong performance, Foster is now averaging an impressive 2.2 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Carson Cody, who went 7 of 12 on his way to 20 points and five rebounds.

Montpelier smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, U-32 came up short against Lyndon Institute on Monday and fell 56-47.

Montpelier pushed their record up to 5-1 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 79.7 points per game. As for U-32, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-4.

Everything came up roses for Montpelier against U-32 when the teams last played back in February of 2024, as the team secured an 86-53 win. Does Montpelier have another victory up their sleeve, or will U-32 turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
