The Beech Grove Hornets will head out to square off against the Centerville Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Beech Grove will be strutting in after a win while Centerville will be coming in after a loss.
On Wednesday, Beech Grove needed a bit of extra time to put away Eminence. They won by a run and slipped past the Eels 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Hornets have posted since May 22, 2024.
Kyrah Pierle tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over five innings pitched.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Harper Moore, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Addison Corn was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
Meanwhile, Centerville entered their game against Hagerstown on Wednesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Bulldogs took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tigers. The contest marked the Bulldogs' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.
Madi Yount was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one home run.
Yount wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Aubrey Seifer, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
Beech Grove's record now sits at 6-9-1. As for Centerville, the defeat was their first at home , dropping their record down to 7-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Beech Grove has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Centerville struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Beech Grove's way against Centerville in their previous meeting back in April of 2022, as Beech Grove made off with a 12-6 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hornets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
