The Union County Fightin' Tigers will face off against the Trinity Christian Academy Conquerors at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Union County comes in on four and Trinity Christian Academy on three.
Last Friday, Union County made easy work of Bronson and carried off a 10-3 victory. The Fightin' Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 contests by six runs or more this season.
Emma Handley was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. Handley was even better at the plate, scoring two runs while going 4-for-4.
In other batting news, Union County got a big performance out of Leanne Dicks, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-5. That's the most hits Dicks has posted since back in April of 2024. Courtney Manning was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
Union County hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in 12 consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Trinity Christian Academy got themselves on the board against Old Plank Christian Academy on Friday, but Old Plank Christian Academy never followed suit. They walked away with a 4-0 win over the Defenders.
Not much got past Madelyn Lasater, who gave up just four hits and racked up 11 Ks to keep Old Plank Christian Academy off the board. With that strong performance, Lasater is now averaging an impressive 5.3 strikeouts per game.
At the plate, Arianna Menendez was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.
Union County's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-5. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.7 runs over those games. As for Trinity Christian Academy, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Union County has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Trinity Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Union County suffered a grim 10-4 defeat to Trinity Christian Academy in their previous matchup back in April of 2018. Can the Fightin' Tigers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
